FAQs

Q1. What is i Light Singapore all about?

Organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) of Singapore, i Light Singapore was previously known as i Light Marina Bay. It started out in 2010 as one of several initiatives to inject vibrancy to the Marina Bay precinct, while reinforcing an important message on sustainability, advocating an environmentally-responsible society and way of life. The Festival has grown over the years to feature not just sustainable light art, but a full array of complementary programmes and exciting events. Returning for its eighth edition this year, the Festival will run over four weekends from 3 to 26 June 2022.

Q6. How is i Light Singapore a sustainable light festival?

The light art installations at the Festival are designed with energy-saving lightings, and recycled or environmentally-friendly materials. They serve as reminders to festival-goers to adopt sustainable habits in their everyday lives.

As part of the Festival’s signature  Switch Off, Turn Up  campaign, building owners, corporations and businesses around and beyond Marina Bay will switch off non-essential lightings and turn up air-conditioning temperatures throughout the duration of the Festival to reduce energy consumption.

For the first time this year, i Light Singapore is partnering susGain, a social enterprise on a mission to make sustainable living in Singapore more accessible, fun and rewarding to drive the change towards a more sustainable nation, on two initiatives. Visitors can participate in i Quest to pick up tips on sustainability and stand a chance to win prizes. Using the susGain rewards app, participants can go around Marina Bay to learn about the sustainability considerations behind each artwork. They can also pledge to adopt sustainable habits in their everyday lives on the Festival website as part of the i Light i Pledge initiative.
